DARK AWAKENING

Rodimus Prime, Kup, Ultra Magnus, Arcee, Spike and Daniel are fleeing from Galvatron and his dreadnought, thanks to a tip from the Quintessons to Galvatron. They launch an escape ship, in hopes to deceive Galvatron into thinking that they have been destroyed with their shuttle, but Galvatron isn't going to be fooled by the same trick twice. Galvatron orders the Decepticons to continue through the debris, to make certain that the Autobots & Humans have been killed.

The escape ship docks at the Autobot Mausoleum, where the bodies of the Autobot Heroes who died in the Great War lay. Daniel explores the crypt, finding the tombs of Ironhide, Ratchet, Prowl & Huffer, when he is startled by Optimus Prime standing nearby, badly damaged. he runs screaming back to the Autobots & his father, and Rodimus decides to inspect Optimus' tomb. When they open the sarcophagus, they find it empty. Then the Decepicons attack the Mausoleum.

The battle starts going against the Autobots, until Optimus Prime reveals himself and takes out Galvatron. The Decepticons flee from what they percieve to be a phantasm, giving the Autobots the resolve to continue fighting.

The Autobots guess that Optimus must have been comatose instead of dead. They follow Optimus to where he has built a spacecraft. There Rodimus gives the Matrix back to Optimus, and returns to being Hot Rod. The Autobots never expect Optimus to open fire upon them. After he attacks the Autobots & humans, Optimus sets the Mausoleum on a crash course with a nearby red star and leaves for Cybertron.

Back on Cybertron, Optimus tells the Autobots that the Quintessons have killed their friends, and commands that the entire Autobot Armada leave to attack the Quintessons.

Meanwhile, Hot Rod and the others build an escape craft and flee the Mausoleum before it crashes into the red sun. They crash land back on Cybertron and are informed of Optimus' orders by Snarl & Sludge. They leave again, to intercept the Autobot Armada.

On the Autobot Flagship, Blurr reports that Hot Rod & company are alive, but Optimus dismisses it as a Quintesson trick. The Quintesson defenses begin to pick apart the Armada, as Optimus orders for Hot Rod's Interceptor to be destroyed. Luckily, Perceptor identifies the Autobots & Humans fleeing the Interceptor and has them rescued. Once on board, Hot Rod goes to confront Optimus Prime. Optimus has a flashback of how the Quintessons revived him to lead the Autobots to their doom.

Hot Rod fights Optimus, and Optimus defeats Hot Rod. Just as the zombie Optimus is about to deliver the killing blow to Hot Rod, the Matrix reasserts control over his body, and the real Optimus Prime takes over. Optimus give the Matrix back to Hot Rod, turning him into Rodimus Prime again. The Autobots evacuate the flagship, leaving Optimus behind at the helm.

Optimus orders the fleet to turn back to Cybertron, and crashes the flagship into the Quintesson trap, which causes the binary stars nearby to go nova. The Autobots bid him farewell as they return to their homeworld.
