GHOST IN THE MACHINE

Possessed by Starscream's lasercore, Scourge attacks Galvatron. Scourge fights for control of his body while Galvatron orders his destruction. Assaulted by Cyclonus, the Sweeps and the Predacons, Starscream flees in Scourge's body and heads for Unicron's head. Galvatron sends Cyclonus and the Sweeps after renegade Decepticon, not aware that Scourge is possessed.

In Unicron's head, Starscream reactivates Unicron and makes a deal with damaged giant. Unicron will restore Starscream to life if he will perform 3 labors for him. The First Labor leads Starscream & Scourge to Autobot City, to steal Metroplex's optics for the blinded Unicron. Scourge agrees to help, since he cannot return to Galvatron.

Scourge accidentally breaks one of Metroplex's optics, after planting a bomb in the giant Autobot's brain chamber. They escape with the intact eye, while Metroplex, maddened by the theft of his eyes shoots blindly until the explosion in his head disables him. Several Autobots are damaged in the melee.

To keep their deal with Unicron for two optics, Scourge & Starscream go to Charr to steal one eye from Trypticon. They are temporarily halted by Runamok & Runabout, but they are able to accomplish their mission. Starscream possesses Astrotrain, since he has enough cargo space to carry both eyes and escape past Thrust and Dirge. After Astrotrain's usefulness is gone, Starscream ditches Astrotrain in Autobot airspace on Cybertron, where he is captured. The Autobots then notice that Unicron has new eyes, and surmise that Starscream & Scourge are working for Unicron. They lead a group to Unicron's head to investigate further, but they are forced to retreat when Unicron uses Scourge his internal defenses to repel them. Unicron then gives Starscream his second labor, which is to bring Trypticon to him.

On Charr, Galvatron is preparing to execute Runamok, Runabout, Thrust & Dirge, when Trypticon, possessed by Starscream, transforms unexpectedly, interrupting the execution. The four condemned Decepticons stow away in the Decepticon city, while Starscream leads it to Unicron's head. There, Unicron demands that Trypticon's transformation cog be installed in his head. Starscream uses Trypticon to neutralize Galvatron's & the Decepticon's weapon, allowing Scourge to escape and tell Galvatron what is occuring. Scourge them contacts the Autobots to warn them about Unicron's third labor for Starscream.

Starscream's third labor is to attach Unicron's head to Cybertron, so that the giant may use the planet as his new body. Before Starscream can complete the connections for Unicron, the four condemned Decepticons sabotage Trypticon, preventing Starscream from finishing with Trypticon's body. Starscream tells Unicron that he will be unable to complete his deal unless he is given his new body now, and Unicron agrees.

As soon as Starscream receives his new body, though, he betrays Unicron by refusing to finish the third labor . The Autobots set explosives beneath Unicron's head, blasting it & Starscream into space. As Starscream tumbles uncontrollably through space, the Decepticons fire at him. His smoking body continues to travel out of sight and out of control.
